Artists Studio in St Merryn

Susie Ray is a local Artist who was inspired to build a huge multi purpose studio from which she could not only create beautiful artworks of her own but where she could also inspire and teach others to do the same.

Clients Brief

Susie had archtiects plans for a traditional bungalow with concrete tiled roof.  What she wanted to create was a large space with good natural lighting that would enable the to keep all her creative equipment alongside a large amount on moveable workspace so that she could conduct lessons and events.  Hoping to use the area for day and weekend courses she also needed a kitchen, toilet and a chill out zone for guests to use.

Sprouts Role

Sprout designed and built the studio, demolishing the garage which was previously on the site.  Martin lead the design team and working with Susie designed the building to spec including the tin roof and the detailed lead corners on the roof.  The work areas are light, bright, spacious and flexible and the guest is given plenty of room to move around freely and think creatively.

"When I first met Martin I was feeling very despondent about my plans for my studio to be built, he was the first person who was upbeat and positive about building it on my tight budget. I now have my dream studio that I love, surprisingly it was a lot of fun seeing it go up.There was an excellent work crew that made the whole experience a real pleasure. Thank you Sprout!"   Susie Ray, Artist
